Pick your label-- and love every minute of it! Chances are you spend every free moment researching baby names, updating your registry, and getting your nursery ready. But what about ALSO learning what to do when you bring that baby home? That step often gets left out. No worries. That's what Project Mom is for.Project Momhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11307332757026263187noreply@blogger.comBlogger69125tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3929046097185463066.post-58576691381485155302011-03-23T19:23:00.000-07:002011-03-23T19:23:03.374-07:00Nursery Water<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgeR1hQa8Ace1QTwcA8FrFVYSjjF4lvVmbOqg8bvIlU_kdoYUsKoMmJajIenYmZ0AzPlmfoo1iAg7xhzcsamaCq-uZW9Ue-ZQc7tN57DcLa5J134DaiwSX0L0iN38e3smhMdn-xC3g5Y7eF/s1600/nurserywater.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgeR1hQa8Ace1QTwcA8FrFVYSjjF4lvVmbOqg8bvIlU_kdoYUsKoMmJajIenYmZ0AzPlmfoo1iAg7xhzcsamaCq-uZW9Ue-ZQc7tN57DcLa5J134DaiwSX0L0iN38e3smhMdn-xC3g5Y7eF/s1600/nurserywater.jpeg" /></a></div><br />
Okay, I like ruffles and girly things. And, um, for those of you with boys, I like camo and navy, too. So I am not someone to deny a "luxury." But I do not understand the concept of "nursery water."<br />
<br />
<br />
If anyone can shed some light on this, please, be my guest. But as for now I consider it to be one of those marketing scams. Kind of like once you tell someone you need them for a wedding the cost triples. I think nursery water is just as hateful. In my opinion FRESH water, that has not been sitting on a store shelf for who knows how long, in a PLASTIC jug, no less, seems to me a lot better for my baby. Just saying. It claims a fair purpose, and I am not saying it is bad. Just not saying I think it is necessary.<br />
<br />
So as you are gathering up all your supplies for babydom, I am pretty sure you can leave that one off your list. Save you pennies for a pair of these shoes (they are my new obsession). My husband is probably rolling his eyes right about now!<br />

So you are eating for two. Not two adults, mind you, but two none the less. Even if you are trying to behave yourself it is hard to stay super tiny when you are growing another human being. Just saying.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi3OqQb-r8x5_3SJ4z3l1BWE4CdKUNcCiq7gFyMr4J3jNXIZY-MyjQysaO27Xs6ffpmUyEpfyBJ1rcWS2NyagKiXss7VKe6RW_YmoUdxm0ic4Dk29chQgmYDbL0gwKzuejS0AHwocvtd1AS/s1600/ohbabylogo.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi3OqQb-r8x5_3SJ4z3l1BWE4CdKUNcCiq7gFyMr4J3jNXIZY-MyjQysaO27Xs6ffpmUyEpfyBJ1rcWS2NyagKiXss7VKe6RW_YmoUdxm0ic4Dk29chQgmYDbL0gwKzuejS0AHwocvtd1AS/s1600/ohbabylogo.jpg" /></a></div>But taking care of your diet and your body is obviously important, especially when you are preggers. You feel better, look better, baby is healthier, and your delivery can also benefit from regular fitness. Yep. Exercise is good.<br />
<br />
You can rock your gym, but wouldn't it be more fun to workout with other chicks due about the same time as you? You can make new friends AND not feel like the only walking watermelon in your aerobics class. Or if you just had baby, wouldn't it be nice to exercise with other women who just gave birth. Ya know. Someone else still sporting the maternity band. Could meet some new friends and set up play dates! <br />

If you haven't thought about a babymoon, DO. It makes for a great excuse to take a little vacay and allows soon-to-be Mommy and Daddy a chance to hang out and have fun.<br />
<br />
The Foundry Park Inn& Spa in Athens is a great local place to visit. The inn itself is the perfect mix between historic charm and modern style. There are the regular (adorable) inn rooms and the Park also boasts a couple luxury spa suites. Nice!<br />

On site there are two places to eat. The Hoyt House is out of this world. And if you are in the mood for a little nightlife (maybe just to keep hubby entertained?) they also have The Melting Point. Live music certain nights, restaurant, bar, and a cute patio outside to relax if that is more your speed.<br />

And then there is the spa. O-M-G! It is a quaint hideaway that does nothing but spoil.With treatments including massage therapy (<i>Swedish, Hot Stone, Aromatherapy, and more</i>), body exfoliations, wraps, facials, nail care, waxing, Oh My, what is not to love? There is also a fitness center and pool if you want to keep up with your fitness while you are away.<br />

And then he starts drooling a lot, maybe gets a little fever here and there, and ummmm might at times be fussy. Why? The joys of teething.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgRv_pZUQtn49eGFe6mY942MH1KdZ3KAw8nWBaDDaOe-V1tqmwEhtk97Z-AyJejzGAi1z3GGAH84uyW_NLHlPZoK2TZj1u05a0CNMnnzCmYxMVE64FrpqwL-dUz5dUxuhg3lF45bIKFac4s/s1600/teething.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgRv_pZUQtn49eGFe6mY942MH1KdZ3KAw8nWBaDDaOe-V1tqmwEhtk97Z-AyJejzGAi1z3GGAH84uyW_NLHlPZoK2TZj1u05a0CNMnnzCmYxMVE64FrpqwL-dUz5dUxuhg3lF45bIKFac4s/s320/teething.jpeg" /></a></div><br />
<br />
By 1 yr that toothless grin has been replaced by several baby teeth that by 2 yrs are all here ready to bite and chew. You or baby's food.<br />
<br />
At some point your brain does a little panic. <span style="font-size: large;">Ahhh, do I need to brush these baby teeth? When does my kid need to start seeing a pediatric dentist? And where do I even find a children's dentist?</span> Ahhhhhhhh<br />
<br />
No worries. <span style="font-size: large;">Alpharetta Children's Dentistry has answered all of these questions</span>. Go ahead and breathe a sigh of relief (we did!). <br />
<br />
Follow this link <span style="font-size: large;"><a href="http://www.alpharettachildrensdentistry.com/">HERE</a></span> and learn all about topics like:<br />
<ul><li><b>tips for your kid's first visit</b></li>
<li><b>taking an office tour (kind of like a test drive)</b></li>
<li><b>oral health info for toddlers & preschoolers</b></li>
<li><b>the answer to the fluoride / no fluoride question (in toothpaste too)</b></li>
</ul>Those of you lucky enough to snag at ticket to our <b>Sept 29th Preggo Party</b> will get a cheat sheet with ALL this information. It is a great reference to keep on hand.<br />

Their philosophy is <b>positive dental experiences</b> for all kids (from toddler to teen!). Who wants their kid to be afraid to go to the dentist? Not me. So I appreciate their goal to make <b>every visit fun and comfortable</b>. The waiting room has a toy room sure to make FAO Schwartz green with envy. If you have ever had to sit in a waiting room with a child, you KNOW how great this attention to detail is.<br />

If one of their 2 locations isn't convenient for you, be sure to find another pediatric dentist that thinks like a kid. Everyone will go home smiling about it:) <br />

At about 6 months your baby might be ready for baby food. The first time Junior ever tries to eat from a spoon is pretty comical. And by that I also mean messy. They just aren't real sure what to do with it. Some babies gobble it up while others just push it right back out. Either way, expect an adorable mess when you are finished.<br />
<br />
There are many options when it comes to what type of baby food to get. Of course there is the commercial kind at the grocery store. It is the cheapest (that you can buy) but depending on how healthy you are, it might not be the most wholesome. Believe it or not a lot of those brands have a lot of secret sugar in them. And the way they are made actually decreases their nutritional value. Read the labels before you buy.<br />
<br />
Most stores are now carrying more and more organic brand baby food, too. These are slightly more expensive but are made from purer ingredients and are rich in vitamins and minerals. Read the label. Earth's Best is pretty good, in our humble opinion, but there are many options out there.<br />
<br />
Another option is to make your own. At first this might seem a little overwhelming but from what I have heard it is not that big of a deal. In essence you just steam or boil your average veggie and puree your average fruit (both will need added water to soften them up a bit) into a consistency your baby is okay with. Ice cube trays are great for storing any extra, although containers are also on the market for homemade baby food. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjfq5KG_r7xcclp_xJbnSqEkwL00Q6s1Ni_mz3fBxhfkQ_hDtN7VgFW6-uDeTue-49dLyrG8a8KRM7JF6oHbn1wjmCkVouOhPMYtPEeGQY1kHIpDngVZkWjFI5WzVuDerQP86ZSLk097pau/s1600/jacksdawg.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjfq5KG_r7xcclp_xJbnSqEkwL00Q6s1Ni_mz3fBxhfkQ_hDtN7VgFW6-uDeTue-49dLyrG8a8KRM7JF6oHbn1wjmCkVouOhPMYtPEeGQY1kHIpDngVZkWjFI5WzVuDerQP86ZSLk097pau/s320/jacksdawg.jpg" /></a></div><br />
My personal choice is a combo of the two: organic AND homemade. <a href="http://www.jacksharvest.com/">Jack's Harvest</a> is an Atlanta based company (really two moms with major domestic gifts) that <span style="font-size: large;">makes and sells frozen organic baby food</span>. You can purchase it through Whole Foods and also through Amazon.com. Why I like Jack's Harvest? <span style="font-size: large;">No pesticides in the fruits and veggies. No crazy cooking process that robs my baby of what she really needs</span>. Just two moms making delicious, healthy food. It is convenient and more importantly GOOD FOR MY BABY :)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhz1GBOqB_5SnossE53xOEm0pC8G9E-FvVeOu8FWiRLUJV2lY0QSneF8GzQg-U6wki6eQeys4CN_BgzW9SqamLMspIO0Rxx_RTUvM4tlmcqi6YT2CLxX7Cv_iq_II5qCL_jQy9kvZQcoQ7e/s1600/heather-connie.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhz1GBOqB_5SnossE53xOEm0pC8G9E-FvVeOu8FWiRLUJV2lY0QSneF8GzQg-U6wki6eQeys4CN_BgzW9SqamLMspIO0Rxx_RTUvM4tlmcqi6YT2CLxX7Cv_iq_II5qCL_jQy9kvZQcoQ7e/s320/heather-connie.jpg" /></a></div><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Here's is what Jack's Harvest is all about: (from their website)</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: small;"><i>Jarred baby food is cooked at extremely high temperatures so it can sit for years. Over processing removes a lot of nutrients leaving food bland and tasteless. (Would you want to eat it?) <span style="font-size: large;">Jack's Harvest not only tastes better, it has a higher nutrient content.</span> Your baby has taste buds and knows what tastes good. They also know what looks good and smells good. After that now-nasty soon-to-be-adorable belly button stump falls off, you can give baby her first bath. It really is a sweet experience, but here are a few lessons from the front lines.<br />
<br />
1. Baby cannot sit up by herself until around 6 months so you need a tub that will allow baby to lay back or sit up with your assistance. And then you have to somehow use your other arm to wash baby while she slips all over the place. If possible have a helper (like Daddy) tag team the first bath in case you need some extra hands. Wanna make it easier? Try these items:<br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><b>A Bath Sponge</b></span> (just lay it in your sink to keep baby from bumping his or her head on the edge and giving her a soft place to sit. You can also add one to your standard baby bath tub. These are CHEAP, like $6ish, and are really all you need in the beginning. Every now and then baby might poo on it (VERY rare) but for a $6 replacement, not that big of a deal. Find it <a href="http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/product.asp?sku=16084697">HERE</a><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiwwM7jEzVMFgRj8fdumYnIncPrNc-_sBl29NrmpaYUE8s7lR3kSJbNhTIvYb2fBIahUE-kp1KG-212h406C2iXD8OVPVpfjR5XXc3TqHnipSflHjTE9npikYduAAuTIECE-Cq33ri1WUp-/s1600/bathsponge.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiwwM7jEzVMFgRj8fdumYnIncPrNc-_sBl29NrmpaYUE8s7lR3kSJbNhTIvYb2fBIahUE-kp1KG-212h406C2iXD8OVPVpfjR5XXc3TqHnipSflHjTE9npikYduAAuTIECE-Cq33ri1WUp-/s200/bathsponge.JPG" width="200" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOFfv9-8YBbWXhZz-fnDojN-TE1olpejKavjr-hHWf7_91FrtNpMfiYpqTDjgNjXjYGaRq7LvGyi4F3wXzIMF8U1_0gOiR7sFtXjK_BeDkuVsbdbHaS_oG0jK-zU2n91PDH4MgXk5FlStT/s1600/bathsponge2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOFfv9-8YBbWXhZz-fnDojN-TE1olpejKavjr-hHWf7_91FrtNpMfiYpqTDjgNjXjYGaRq7LvGyi4F3wXzIMF8U1_0gOiR7sFtXjK_BeDkuVsbdbHaS_oG0jK-zU2n91PDH4MgXk5FlStT/s320/bathsponge2.jpg" /></a></div><br />
<br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><b>A Bath Bucket</b></span> (since baby cannot hit up these are VERY helpful for the newborn stage, but not cheap at $45ish a pop. Baby will outgrow it eventually, but at least you have a bucket you can re-purpose for other things. Fine one <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Spa-Baby-European-Style-Tub/dp/B001AJ69CS/ref=sr_1_13?ie=UTF8&s=baby-products&qid=1283172748&sr=1-13">HERE</a>. The <span style="font-size: large;"><b>regular baby tubs</b></span> are PERFECT. Fine one <a href="http://www.amazon.com/PRIMO-Infant-Bath-Seat-White/dp/B000BXJZDY/ref=sr_1_22?ie=UTF8&s=baby-products&qid=1283172748&sr=1-22">HERE</a> for about $10. You can use either a bucket or tub until baby can sit up properly. Just beware that once baby starts moving around, she will splash splash splash in these little tubs. Solution? Take it off your counter and start laying it in the real tub. That makes it easy to fill up, store, and saves your bathroom from a super wet mess. We are not big fans of the expensive baby tubs. For something you will only use for maybe 6 months, not worth it. But to each his own...<br />

<br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><b>A sit up seat</b></span> (once baby hits around 5-6 months you can try one of these seats if you like. Find one <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Aquababy-Bath-Ring-Thermobaby-Green/dp/B0015B0RHO/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&s=baby-products&qid=1283173087&sr=1-9">HERE</a> for about $38. They slide over the edge of your tub and allow baby to take a bath in your regular bathtub. The plus? Your back gets a little break and you have some free hands. These are helpful for that transition time when baby is too big for a baby tub but cannot sit up well enough yet to take a big bath without your help. This is not a must have item, but it is a helpful little fellow.<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">they come in pink too!</td></tr>
</tbody></table><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><b>Spout Cover</b></span> (when baby starts sitting up in the big tub these are a good idea. Babies LOVE splashing and wiggling around in the tub, so cover the spout to make sure they don't head butt it. These little covers also give baby something to play with when old enough, too. We like 2fers around here! Find one <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Kel-Gar-52887-Tubbly-Bubbly-Hippo/dp/B0007LQKN8/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=baby-products&qid=1283173277&sr=1-2">HERE</a> for about $15 on average. There are animal ones like these and more modern, sleek designs, too.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhq9fH4RbjP6QoBU8MVpSD6PKwpXXWiv6eavIcal1JQb2E8UObWqdO-zoxzqAA5d0pv2GiP3p_uzXmcpnkSCSyxVY-ef4FPKeICzeP_Z9GVlgIn7Y3Ohg1LbyCF2F74O912VeWGaWwuvF8O/s1600/babyspoutcover.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhq9fH4RbjP6QoBU8MVpSD6PKwpXXWiv6eavIcal1JQb2E8UObWqdO-zoxzqAA5d0pv2GiP3p_uzXmcpnkSCSyxVY-ef4FPKeICzeP_Z9GVlgIn7Y3Ohg1LbyCF2F74O912VeWGaWwuvF8O/s320/babyspoutcover.jpg" /></a></div><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><b>Extra Bonus Tip:</b></span> Just like changing a diaper, the difference in air temperature can cause baby to pee (or more!). So unless you want to end up like my husband--- t-shirt soaked in baby urine--- yum!!!!, <b>do not take off baby's diaper until you are ready to put her in the tub</b>. If you realized that you left the baby wash in the closet, do not get baby naked and have daddy hold her until you get back unless you want a good laugh. On daddy. Literally. Keep the diaper on until the last possible moment...just in case.<br />
<br />
If you are nervous, or just curious, how to give a newborn a bath, <b>check out this YouTube video</b>. Okay, it is a little cheesy. But it IS helpful. If nothing else it at least gives you an idea of how to give baby that first bath. And take pictures of the first bath if possible or video it. There is nothing cuter than a sweet little baby, all clean and fresh, wrapped up in a towel after a bath. Love it!<br />

There are about a gazillion different styles of diaper bags. And the one that is right for you depends on how you plan to use it. More on that later. For now we wanted to let you in on <span style="font-size: large;"><b>a little secret. Buy two diaper bags</b></span>. A big one for when you will be out for a while. And a mini one for when you are just running into a store or going on a quick errand and do not need to rip your shoulder out of socket.<br />
<br />
Get a diaper bag you are going to WANT to carry around. Don't feel the need to get Winnie the Pooh unless YOU like Winnie the Pooh. Your kid won't know the difference and you can get him or her a bag for themselves later. If Daddy is going to be taking daddy out a lot too, consider getting a gender neutral bag. Totally up to you.<br />
<br />
You can purchase a <span style="font-size: large;">set of matching bags</span> like these from <a href="http://www.thebumblecollection.com/">The Bumble Collection</a>:<br />

Pockets and storage are a must</span>. Kristi G (featured below) has a EZ Wipe collection that is genius. Wipes are accessible from the outside. More on her later... but here is a sneak peak.<br />

It is so fun. After all, this is where your baby is going to spend a lot of his time, so it needs to be cute. And there are a million places to visit for ideas. There are so many choices! What bedding? Window treatments? A dresser? Do we want a rocking chair or glider or nothing at all?<br />
<br />
In most nurseries, one of the first things you see when you walk in is the crib. It is usually a pretty prominent figure in a baby's room. Genius of us to point out, right. But what to put above the crib? It has to be something worthy of its location. Right there. Above baby. But it also has to be something that baby can't pull down when he gets bigger. Or something that could fall on baby.<br />
<br />
So what are some cool options for above the crib? We're so glad you asked. Here are a few ideas we heart.<br />
1.<span style="font-size: large;"><b> Initials and Names</b></span><br />
Everyone used to do wooden letters, which are still cute. But a new trend is the vinyl decal or painted "mural" of baby's name or initials<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiuq-MBFwVm50QU6jJ6c7Nx6WDJ5iC6wa9E5x7yZfDNlc3d-8SfAQg2CQql62ECat8kbfwnbbaTNSpqHfheDkVFeaEicGIa4QVxT7iGjpv_2oxoZ9-Rs8TFHTNLnlRa8pw0MyXepIxs_SrB/s1600/muralinitials.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiuq-MBFwVm50QU6jJ6c7Nx6WDJ5iC6wa9E5x7yZfDNlc3d-8SfAQg2CQql62ECat8kbfwnbbaTNSpqHfheDkVFeaEicGIa4QVxT7iGjpv_2oxoZ9-Rs8TFHTNLnlRa8pw0MyXepIxs_SrB/s320/muralinitials.jpg" /></a></div>2. If it is secured WELL, a <span style="font-size: large;"><b>mirror</b></span> is also a cool option. It bounces light around the room, reflects the rest of the cute room, and gives baby something to look at.<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh4Ni8E8WK059jLIOCGqwSowMvMu9hlyqfRD39KW4286DhtjKzVhpHH8yQynMKcwcgQmCICoNxfPQz5WyPlGFddbWIXZBDDerJSNRU93EOV3D6rW2zqj_rYnzgVrrAh1Pf64sEd53PGzfN_/s1600/mirror.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh4Ni8E8WK059jLIOCGqwSowMvMu9hlyqfRD39KW4286DhtjKzVhpHH8yQynMKcwcgQmCICoNxfPQz5WyPlGFddbWIXZBDDerJSNRU93EOV3D6rW2zqj_rYnzgVrrAh1Pf64sEd53PGzfN_/s320/mirror.jpg" /></a></td></tr>

</tbody></table><br />
3. <b>Removable <span style="font-size: large;">decals</span> are huge</b>. HUGE. <span style="font-size: large;">HUGE</span>. You can move them later if baby is into something different or you just feel like changing things up a bit. You might get one for an entire accent wall or just add a vignette for visual fun.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2I2CUOe7lIZUq5ZffNGWdtYls-W8XxWWLAY9_Fu28buX5scFqtwfBzG2VYRC30OctOLuX2vnDseslsY5I0PxRq5QKOYMQmPq5as2UZCKlcFltj4vBQvlhqXw1jo-A0rfal6Pu3hh92hne/s1600/boycribsequel.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2I2CUOe7lIZUq5ZffNGWdtYls-W8XxWWLAY9_Fu28buX5scFqtwfBzG2VYRC30OctOLuX2vnDseslsY5I0PxRq5QKOYMQmPq5as2UZCKlcFltj4vBQvlhqXw1jo-A0rfal6Pu3hh92hne/s320/boycribsequel.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhIcoT2BNLurSV_4Y7eufBx5mXhyxZ2iqZ06jh82Addj9OOJgLDYOa05Q7msMF_gX40smkgx8UC5Oq-JWTEMfeNKQiOLaIi1bECes2yZsxVr2LWBkrc8LDycZkalqppVbL4gzHZaJv_hTTj/s1600/whimsicalplants.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhIcoT2BNLurSV_4Y7eufBx5mXhyxZ2iqZ06jh82Addj9OOJgLDYOa05Q7msMF_gX40smkgx8UC5Oq-JWTEMfeNKQiOLaIi1bECes2yZsxVr2LWBkrc8LDycZkalqppVbL4gzHZaJv_hTTj/s320/whimsicalplants.jpg" width="238" /></a></div>4. <b><span style="font-size: large;">A Picture</span></b>: again, make sure it is SECURE. But a print or two (or three) above the crib can be just the thing. We like how this room uses the mobile concept and the canvas behind the crib as part of the room's theme.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhED4yYixH42IRYa7cZw5XXUbriNOrYxqu-CPI2O5AHFAxb-uYHnAo6Wsc1h1MqUJhBMv5yxA-FDUvUIKURxnUhaU_b4IPd0r1W_Zwi2NayY-gnfn-xnZAWBbl4-1HhlOraVm-pVHWud9CH/s1600/birdsbranch.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhED4yYixH42IRYa7cZw5XXUbriNOrYxqu-CPI2O5AHFAxb-uYHnAo6Wsc1h1MqUJhBMv5yxA-FDUvUIKURxnUhaU_b4IPd0r1W_Zwi2NayY-gnfn-xnZAWBbl4-1HhlOraVm-pVHWud9CH/s320/birdsbranch.jpg" /></a></div><br />
5. <span style="font-size: large;"><b>Fun Stuff</b></span>: and there are just some creative parents (or designers) out there who thought of interesting things to fill the space above the crib. We think baby would approve.<br />

The first year of baby's life is priceless. Watching her grow from a sleepy newborn into a walking toddler (well almost) is amazing. And it goes by so fast. There are some special frames and mats that can help chronicle this precious time.<br />
<br />
1. If you do not want to spend a ton of money, there are mats that provide a space for each month of baby's first year. Check out <a href="http://www.bellasdream.com/">Bellas Dream</a> for some options for both boys and girls. You can personalize the mats with stickers and letters that come as part of the kit, too. They range in price from about $10-$15. This option allows you to select the exact frame you want. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEilmjjUzxWk-IPC_VaF2AZ652ACmZYfluZJhBSeiwSjwwDvugi0Qve4MB-TtHfxC_gzxYeK_Z0MRAsypNtjUl5KQ3oJ4c1Dqv69ph-M9X9eaDxzxhUVmDY-9UMEOb9gzGITCxX-mMRBPJI2/s1600/bboytoys11x14.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEilmjjUzxWk-IPC_VaF2AZ652ACmZYfluZJhBSeiwSjwwDvugi0Qve4MB-TtHfxC_gzxYeK_Z0MRAsypNtjUl5KQ3oJ4c1Dqv69ph-M9X9eaDxzxhUVmDY-9UMEOb9gzGITCxX-mMRBPJI2/s320/bboytoys11x14.jpg" /></a></div>2. Another option is a frame like this Memories of Me from Pearhead available at <a href="http://www.baby-memory-books.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=PH-81030&gdftrk=gdfV21453_a_7c1049_a_7c4351_a_7cPH_d_81030">BabySakes</a> . It comes in white or mahogany and is around $22. It is a classic, simple option you can hang on the wall or stand on the table.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgS7cqghru_L9D242PIj0rAgBrHjMNecFSklciAJOa7ugCr-z3lrYFv09h6-LnY_mWaPSU4qf4PFi0ke_0XXKw-qDIMj1jeh9Gneviw6AwxOB5H2qOwyYUZFZjlDeYWyb1wNXlaJyeOi0mE/s1600/babysakes.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgS7cqghru_L9D242PIj0rAgBrHjMNecFSklciAJOa7ugCr-z3lrYFv09h6-LnY_mWaPSU4qf4PFi0ke_0XXKw-qDIMj1jeh9Gneviw6AwxOB5H2qOwyYUZFZjlDeYWyb1wNXlaJyeOi0mE/s320/babysakes.jpg" /></a></div>3. Pottery Barn Kids used to have this frame, which we LOVE. However it was about $249 which is a bit steep. However for someone crafty making something like this would not be all that hard. Just get a bulletin board (framed cork board) and add a fabric using glue or staples. Then find 12 of the smaller frames and hang them on the board with a cool ribbon or nail head or funky thumb tack. There are a lot of ways to customize this to match the nursery.<br />

Especially when you are high on baby. But let's be real. Having a will JUST IN CASE is far more pleasant than the alternative, which is having the state decide who will raise your child. No thanks!!<br />
<br />
So, just to make sure you have all your bases covered, after your baby is born make an appointment with an estate lawyer. Ask friends and family who they use (if you do not have a lawyer already) or go to <a href="http://www.abanet.org/">The American Bar Association</a> and find someone reputable in your area. <br />
<br />
Consider whom you want to raise your child. Who will give your baby the most nurturing environment and teach him what he needs to know about life? Mostly likely you will be giving this person financial assistance through your assets, such as a 401K or IRA, etc. Make sure the person you select to raise your child will have access to this money either directly or through a financial executor. Think long term. Sure your mom has free time because she is retired, but can she really handle the day to day energy it takes to raise a baby? Maybe, maybe not.<br />
<br />
Kaboose has a great article that outlines some of the elements to consider and provides some resources you can consult. Find it <a href="http://money-finance.kaboose.com/money/the-importance-of-writing-a-will.html">HERE</a>. This is a just a guide to get you started. An estate lawyer who is experienced in this sort of law is your best source of information.<br />
<br />
You love your baby oodles, so you want to make sure you have thought of everything. Even the "un-fun"stuff. Pretend it's a word, k.Project Momhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11307332757026263187noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3929046097185463066.post-26334441259214898662010-08-02T12:01:00.000-07:002010-08-02T12:01:26.284-07:00Please Don't Scratch Your Face, Baby!A while back (in the birth announcement post) we talked a little bit about newborns and their desire to scratch their face. Okay, well they just like to have their hands right up against their face and do not seem to understand the concept of fingernails. So their face gets all scratched up. And you want to take their picture and show them off, so what are you to go?<br />
<br />
When you are in the hospital/ freshly home you can try a few options.<br />
1. <span style="font-size: large;"><b>Hand Mitts</b></span> (these do not always stay on but when you are changing baby's clothes or need a quick cover up these are great)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLRisJGG805wxfM-_nE1zplVJl1ZI-NBEeNoEmRZBdnxraaDVyDb0pnbuvXYqyF_IJjBYGylH_on3MLCIrNw5yqRf9rcEu2xdzSFbzD7W8m90qIesDaLkX1BoZ1nzxgBpeLZQ_vnRlt0Ah/s1600/fingermitts.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLRisJGG805wxfM-_nE1zplVJl1ZI-NBEeNoEmRZBdnxraaDVyDb0pnbuvXYqyF_IJjBYGylH_on3MLCIrNw5yqRf9rcEu2xdzSFbzD7W8m90qIesDaLkX1BoZ1nzxgBpeLZQ_vnRlt0Ah/s200/fingermitts.jpg" width="200" /></a></div>2. <span style="font-size: large;"><b>Swaddling</b></span> (newborns LOVE being little burritos so this keeps them cozy AND keeps those fingernails safely tucked away)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhw8NNO287awLkBOvERqZ8-v96Gyy0r1JRB5KPJ0Ny70hU7_0BpkF9zFgLb36Mf-l52D92IkaYOfl4NU-sRHim4R6TbyGw4I2q6zDKWoLhmLHHaCkSkNZAam-di3EfezP94rSmUjZ4-y0HP/s1600/swaddleblanket.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhw8NNO287awLkBOvERqZ8-v96Gyy0r1JRB5KPJ0Ny70hU7_0BpkF9zFgLb36Mf-l52D92IkaYOfl4NU-sRHim4R6TbyGw4I2q6zDKWoLhmLHHaCkSkNZAam-di3EfezP94rSmUjZ4-y0HP/s320/swaddleblanket.jpg" /></a></div>3.<span style="font-size: large;"><b> Sleeve Folds</b></span> (most long sleeve newborn tops have an extra flap you just fold over baby's hands... the nurses can show you if you don't get it. We didn't at first!)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEie2iDTs-DAzCxOnoxx2SXd0vCJnBOHecfhZjoUu7lWzFq5hav6xW4YSp356ypO5YyyOecL2CFX7aLcckYY3LXtnMs7_FchrlD6b_tz_WbZEq2fzMbv3KWBfMB6XI-N25QqSxobbyJBP3jk/s1600/fingersleeve.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEie2iDTs-DAzCxOnoxx2SXd0vCJnBOHecfhZjoUu7lWzFq5hav6xW4YSp356ypO5YyyOecL2CFX7aLcckYY3LXtnMs7_FchrlD6b_tz_WbZEq2fzMbv3KWBfMB6XI-N25QqSxobbyJBP3jk/s320/fingersleeve.jpg" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRWQ-XapIDQlgr_aND88XxrKLk4sFHiaIlYTBRfMSWV4-yeOCCxzh_aI7AIuKuYrutR1zxvOGjWSBtPM-vX0H13zV_0Br3czv0pq58ScYOMAtfv-TM88SszhewoUo_P1VfoMDOVkWLCjeD/s1600/fingersleevefolded.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRWQ-XapIDQlgr_aND88XxrKLk4sFHiaIlYTBRfMSWV4-yeOCCxzh_aI7AIuKuYrutR1zxvOGjWSBtPM-vX0H13zV_0Br3czv0pq58ScYOMAtfv-TM88SszhewoUo_P1VfoMDOVkWLCjeD/s320/fingersleevefolded.jpg" /></a></div><span style="font-size: large;"><b>Baby Fingernails</b></span><br />
You cannot cut them for several weeks because they are soooo soft. Many a parent has clipped the tip of baby's finger trying to cut those nails before the right time. Spare yourself the drama. For the first few weeks you can peel baby's nails off if they are scraggly. Or you can file them with a gentle buff. When they have hardened you can them CAREFULLY clip them with baby nail clippers. It is easier to do this by having baby fold the finger over your hand like in this picture. Just an idea!<br />

So much is expected of it. Look good. Be sturdy. Hold my coffee cup. And the remotes. Let me rest my feet on you. Oh, and some girlfriends are coming over for movie night so we'll need you to watch over our wineglasses (pre preggo, of course).<br />
<br />
And when you have little ones the coffee table has to do even more! And take a bigger beating. Wanna know what to look for in a coffee table? Okay, we'll tell you.<br />
<br />
1. <span style="font-size: large;">Avoid Glass</span><br />
It can break. And that can be <span style="font-size: large;">dangerous</span>. Don't think little Timmy is NEVER going to try to climb on top of it. Or that Sally and friends aren't going to use it for their baby dolls one day. <b>Glass scratches</b> easily. Yes, cleaning it is a snap, but replacing it is a pain in the you know what. If at all possible, try to avoid glass for the coffee table in your main living space. This one is cute, but not a good idea.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0QfTFE-0KBC6uouSJogKERG6QxjsgJjkZzXtsiPUgQHdN9f7ftMeccWGk0xlHpVkDjPgReZyJ2L9D9t4muppan1u1gSsln13JR4FMUms8DDzeR9K3mDbxqMDWUN0blg3VbEy5ntWaQzc8/s1600/glasstopcoffee1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="305" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0QfTFE-0KBC6uouSJogKERG6QxjsgJjkZzXtsiPUgQHdN9f7ftMeccWGk0xlHpVkDjPgReZyJ2L9D9t4muppan1u1gSsln13JR4FMUms8DDzeR9K3mDbxqMDWUN0blg3VbEy5ntWaQzc8/s400/glasstopcoffee1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>2.<span style="font-size: large;"> Scale it down</span><br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJUdcVXvZRDGld__yQdSBAvVFqbfspfGcGb0pUQ-KYmi_97h8umma9z5YAh7V67c55RmnUJ0i_mz8yQLul_Fb7Gol-iXcTbSQurTurJPCQLv69adyogfxiWyH0BkPznJ7ZIeE6KKS4iump/s1600/lackcoffee.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJUdcVXvZRDGld__yQdSBAvVFqbfspfGcGb0pUQ-KYmi_97h8umma9z5YAh7V67c55RmnUJ0i_mz8yQLul_Fb7Gol-iXcTbSQurTurJPCQLv69adyogfxiWyH0BkPznJ7ZIeE6KKS4iump/s320/lackcoffee.jpg" /></a>When you have kids, you need room for them to crawl around and later play. Having a coffee table the size of Texas eats away at precious space. You don't want something so small it looks disproportionate to your furniture, but you do want something that gives a little breathing room. And you don't want the lack of space between the table and couch to be a safety hazard either. Some designers suggest <span style="font-size: large;"><b>grouping a few smaller tables together</b></span> or a few smaller <b><span style="font-size: large;">storage cubes</span></b> that can function as a coffee table. They give you versatility and can be moved out of the way if it is play time and you need more room. And when kiddies are asleep or you have friends over, you can put them right back where you want them and party on Mom & Dad!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEil5eCtZ73Ny4xkhezylVe1V0e63Ylq_b5Lgs_v3xcYe-pvamxecRYnWGgKvoB1BvqqVoaxPunOWP0yFyBOiRVQ-OsPHupEfV7yy1622nzlbGM7UYXRPF-mpJjrv9fKBAFNl5OV-AGmfEx8/s1600/storagetable.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEil5eCtZ73Ny4xkhezylVe1V0e63Ylq_b5Lgs_v3xcYe-pvamxecRYnWGgKvoB1BvqqVoaxPunOWP0yFyBOiRVQ-OsPHupEfV7yy1622nzlbGM7UYXRPF-mpJjrv9fKBAFNl5OV-AGmfEx8/s200/storagetable.png" width="159" /></a></div>3.<span style="font-size: large;"> Distressed Look</span><br />
I am not sure who started this trend, but my money is on some parent who also happened to be a furniture designer. The distressed look is every parents secret weapon. The paint is purposefully worn off in places and the table is beat to he_ _ . No one has to know that baby Tommy is the one that caused THAT little spot there with his Tonka truck. It looks like it was part of the design. Thanks!! <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmAjwkJZJMC1aTDE65dw52i8fh68YpnclBJUsQ61A7pt7mfeIRlNSkQR4FWRW9M9X-ML1rCdVay0_4zKTwfXnZp1iI0YbpyQdisgmDgm5Fn1uow0W-NqlYQlnkh-rPXqJvtFJxggfJWg8e/s1600/woodcoffeetable.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmAjwkJZJMC1aTDE65dw52i8fh68YpnclBJUsQ61A7pt7mfeIRlNSkQR4FWRW9M9X-ML1rCdVay0_4zKTwfXnZp1iI0YbpyQdisgmDgm5Fn1uow0W-NqlYQlnkh-rPXqJvtFJxggfJWg8e/s320/woodcoffeetable.jpg" /></a></div><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">4. Storage</span><br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMF25sytInLFdexg5PlyEeDCm5nB9vHTGJLEiBmtHik6tvrS26C_tw21oI7YTL67GhNeh4-ZbFWjL5P6_wNEK0j4YPj1Vk8LO2l6u58Tn_C6mhO41T-bwDec3OQwqiDivFSzajGTfSij1v/s1600/coffeebaskets1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMF25sytInLFdexg5PlyEeDCm5nB9vHTGJLEiBmtHik6tvrS26C_tw21oI7YTL67GhNeh4-ZbFWjL5P6_wNEK0j4YPj1Vk8LO2l6u58Tn_C6mhO41T-bwDec3OQwqiDivFSzajGTfSij1v/s320/coffeebaskets1.jpg" /></a>This should be your new mantra as a Mom. Storage Storage Storage... A table that you can add some cute<span style="font-size: large;"> baskets underneath</span> is perfect for tucking away things like the remotes you don't want baby eating. Or a diaper/wipe stash. Or some toys and an extra blanket. Your living room/den will be so much more enjoyable for both Mommy and Baby if everything has a place. Baskets are a great way to keep your coffee table organized and stylish, too.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
5. <span style="font-size: large;">Knick Knacks</span><br />
Banish them. At least early on until baby can understand what is okay to touch and what is just for decoration. Like this picture above, for example. Love the cute tray with candles and the vase with real flowers. But the candles are unsafe. And even unlit, have you ever tried getting wax out of carpet or fabric? What about seen a toddler eat a candle? Have you seen that? We have. Bring them out when you are entertaining, but not for everyday use. Until later.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhiTtkyT_wqWn7RxHk-4UbKu8nDOYCS1Eo5fJDzb_BrIPRquA602HeRXHFtFq5fjih_W4YaLxNVBbNbpSPhNyMXnABK6HGIpSAIDGZHxMc_TvKevvvqRd6rLValOMZDunvtWjM98hVFBpxG/s1600/stylishlivrm1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhiTtkyT_wqWn7RxHk-4UbKu8nDOYCS1Eo5fJDzb_BrIPRquA602HeRXHFtFq5fjih_W4YaLxNVBbNbpSPhNyMXnABK6HGIpSAIDGZHxMc_TvKevvvqRd6rLValOMZDunvtWjM98hVFBpxG/s320/stylishlivrm1.jpg" /></a></div>This room is cool because the decorative items are up high. It is still stylish and modern. And that table behind the couch is prime for storing toys or other kiddie stuff if need be. Can't guarantee that the vases on top of this table would make it, but they can be put away until they are safe.Project Momhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11307332757026263187noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3929046097185463066.post-3479274403729753032010-07-29T05:29:00.000-07:002010-07-29T05:32:55.236-07:00How to Change a DiaperIf you have nieces and nephews or have some kiddos in your life already, you might have experience with changing diapers. But some of you may have no clue. And that is totally cool. Or you might have changed a 1 year old's diaper but feel a bit nervous about a newborn. That is yours!<br />
<br />
We found some videos we thought might help visualize the whole process. There is one for boys, one for girls, one for cloth prefolds, and then one for cloth all in ones. Happy diapering :)<br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">BOY Diaper</span>: key is to <b>cover his "man" parts</b> so you don't get sprayed. The change in air temp can cause him to pee, especially the first few months. And right after circumcision (if that applies to you) the pee runs right off the diaper because of all the Vaseline in there for healing, so go ahead and <b>put the clean diaper under baby's bottom BEFORE you pull away the dirty one</b>.<br />
<br />

<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">GIRL Diaper</span>: Main difference here is that you MUST <b>wipe front to back</b> with girls. It's just good hygiene. Make sure you <b>wipe out all those crevices</b> (gently), even the little leg rolls because spit up and such finds its way everywhere :) <br />
<br />
<object height="385" width="640"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/aMsPZ1SPSyA&hl=en_US&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/aMsPZ1SPSyA&hl=en_US&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Cloth Diapers: PREFOLDS</span> Cloth diapers are not like they used to be. No more stick pins. And they can save you loads of money in the long run. For a prefold you need the cloth diaper, a snapi, and a cover.<br />
<br />
<object height="385" width="480"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/TLddIUs_kX0&hl=en_US&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/TLddIUs_kX0&hl=en_US&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Cloth Diapers All in One</span>: Same deal as a regular diaper, but you can wash and reuse these. Unlike a prefold, this diaper has an insert so you don't have to use a snapi. You'll see what we mean. <br />

I love decorating. I stalk decor blogs and websites. I cut out tear sheets from magazines and have a whole folder full of inspiration. It is a sickness. But it is also a lot of fun. However, it can also be a little frustrating.<br />
<br />
So many of the catalogs and designers are decorating for people who don't have young children. So although the rooms make me drool, I have to edit them to make them more family friendly and safe. If you are thinking about your own living room (den), here are some ideas that we think work for when your kids are young.<br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: x-large;"><b>Sofa Couch Seating</b></span><br />
1. <span style="font-size: large;">Buy the best made stuff you can afford</span>. 8 way hand tied and all that jazz. Because even if you don't want them to, your kids are going to jump all over your furniture. Like while you are in the shower. Or making dinner. Trust us. They can't resist. Instead of having a couch that sags after 3 years and needs to be replaced, buy one that can stand up to real-life wear and tear and you will be happy for a long time. Even if the fabric get out of style, you can have it recovered or have a custom slip cover made. Takes a licking and keeps on ticking.<br />
2. <span style="font-size: large;">Leather is the most forgiving</span> "fabric" because it is soooo easy to clean. Just wipe. However you do have to oil it here and there or it will look cracked and dry over time.<br />
3. <span style="font-size: large;">Slipcovers can be your friend</span>. Crate and Barrel, Pottery Barn, IKEA... all the big brands have seating with custom slipcovers. You can wash or dry clean yours to keep it looking brand new in spite of all the spit up it has seen. And, again, if you tire of the fabric color you can always order a different one later. Genius! <br />

If they haven't already, most woman's boobs go up AT LEAST one cup size while pregnant. The fun part is that you get to have a nice rack for a while. The bad news is that if you keep wearing your old bras until you are pouring out of them, you might ruin them for good.<br />
<br />
When you notice that your bras are tight around the middle, buy a bigger one that feels better.<b> If you stretch out your old bras you mostly likely will not be able to wear them when your ladies go back to their normal size.</b> Even if the cup size stays relatively the same, the back gets tight. And more importantly-- uncomfortable. When you take that bad boy off and it leaves a red ring around your rosy, it's time for a bigger bra!<br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Here are a few tips about purchasing pregnancy bras.</span><br />
1. <b>Do not spend a million dollars</b>. You won't wear them long enough to justify buying anything couture. Go for comfort and support, but get one for $10ish. Here's a link to some at <a href="http://www.walmart.com/ip/Maternity-Soft-Cup-Nursing-Bra-2-Pack/10250992?wmlspartner=GPA&sourceid=44444444440411886836">Walmart</a> that are $16 for 2<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMJfiW0xzijOOMF2MxHBe6tTYNJE1ft5-N9-T0VzibLaoSFaTnMOH1Fghx75frtcPx72FPI45bJQVvasHoSjFTCtfOHGoqT9hYiDyTHnV6Ya9DPP9ZP8ADMr5WJG5QQS7-UI1RCyp7K2I-/s1600/maternitybra.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMJfiW0xzijOOMF2MxHBe6tTYNJE1ft5-N9-T0VzibLaoSFaTnMOH1Fghx75frtcPx72FPI45bJQVvasHoSjFTCtfOHGoqT9hYiDyTHnV6Ya9DPP9ZP8ADMr5WJG5QQS7-UI1RCyp7K2I-/s320/maternitybra.jpg" /></a></div><br />
<br />
2. Try to find a bra with <b>a little bit of stretch</b> in the fabric. Your cup size might go up <b>again</b>, so if this one will grow with you a bit you will get more use out of it before you have to buy an even bigger size. <a href="http://www.majamas.com/">Majamas</a> has a whole line of great maternity and nursing garments. And they are stylish too.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjs6RuIUStcrdgu7XvEiOavCN7cexV53FTR00oLrthLveWe4V6Owuv5843NvNgGd8EW9RYcOrfTd5q241loYbeGWhz8EOPcCITyp0SgCoACnLLkgCrkH5r89oCnFX2i2J6_o-w0f_brgJEM/s1600/majamasbra.php" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjs6RuIUStcrdgu7XvEiOavCN7cexV53FTR00oLrthLveWe4V6Owuv5843NvNgGd8EW9RYcOrfTd5q241loYbeGWhz8EOPcCITyp0SgCoACnLLkgCrkH5r89oCnFX2i2J6_o-w0f_brgJEM/s320/majamasbra.php" /></a></div><br />
<br />
3. <b>Pay attention to the straps</b>. When your boobs get big, they get heavy. And uncomfortable straps can be annoying. And painful. When you try them on, see how thick and comfortable the straps are. <a href="http://www.spanx.com/category/index.jsp?categoryId=3580153&cp=2992555">Spanx</a> make a bra now that have AMAZING straps. They are not cheap, but if you are really having a hard time we hear they are worth every penny.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjkAInssOKiJd9W2UGvKhmYF7xD-e3I_Dej5D9oHlUV52yR64pxDoCrzBqOB34g_HGYzgbeijck0NMO5g-x4ACXGdAP8EcF8Zg687Dif5xVEa20_CMnVgcr3U0LjlUjpTwkIpRG-l5F4qjc/s1600/spanxbra.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjkAInssOKiJd9W2UGvKhmYF7xD-e3I_Dej5D9oHlUV52yR64pxDoCrzBqOB34g_HGYzgbeijck0NMO5g-x4ACXGdAP8EcF8Zg687Dif5xVEa20_CMnVgcr3U0LjlUjpTwkIpRG-l5F4qjc/s320/spanxbra.jpg" /></a></div><br />
<br />
<br />
4. <b>Towards the end of your pregnancy you might want to start wearing a nursing bra</b> (if you are planning to breastfeed). They are made to stretch and support! When your milk first comes in you usually need a CRAZY huge size, but after a month your supply regulates and your boobs look less like basketballs. So even if this nursing bra you buy ahead of time doesn't fit immediately following delivery, it should be great once your ladies chill out a bit. The <a href="http://www.llliclothes.com/Nursing-Bras.html">La Leche League</a> has some excellent nursing related items, like bras :)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh6E89Kc1H7jP-PY2Kbf4zHthIGVKkdKnnXieyzzBiaCkuZqNGFvQjpheVusWs9GdPodb4rajU2-2GBH3TEtpEurb4cDO66cU0lVH17JRq5gdyPXbtXI0ClU4VMccB-bePmrQNv4TCsXXPz/s1600/lalechebra.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh6E89Kc1H7jP-PY2Kbf4zHthIGVKkdKnnXieyzzBiaCkuZqNGFvQjpheVusWs9GdPodb4rajU2-2GBH3TEtpEurb4cDO66cU0lVH17JRq5gdyPXbtXI0ClU4VMccB-bePmrQNv4TCsXXPz/s320/lalechebra.jpg" /></a></div>Project Momhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11307332757026263187noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3929046097185463066.post-21661522437191007552010-07-24T08:08:00.000-07:002010-07-24T09:06:42.756-07:00Babymoon Destinations for Georgia Moms<span style="font-size: x-large;"><b>babymoon: </b></span>(n) a trip that mommy and daddy take before baby comes; an opportunity to get some "together time" in before baby arrives; mama gets to do what she wants and get pampered however she pleases <br />
<br />
There are a million (or at least a lot) of places you can go. Since the concept of the babymoon is to go towards the end of your pregnancy, these locations are within driving distance and are intended as a weekend getaway. We didn't even have room in this post for Charleston, Nashville and Birmingham!<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Asheville, NC</span><br />
1. <a href="http://www.groveparkinn.com/"><span style="font-size: small;"><b>The Grove Park Inn</b></span></a>: pricey but worth it if you can swing the bucks. The hotel sits up on a hill so you get a cool view from the terrace. Which is a-ma-zing. And don't even get us started on the spa. Here are a few picks to get you going. Even if you don't stay here, pop in for a visit.<br />

<br />
2.<b> <a href="http://www.bohemianhotelasheville.com/">The Bohemian (Asheville)</a></b>: again, a bit pricey. But you are about to embark on a wild ride so splurge if you can. Or maybe a lovely family member wants to treat you. Asheville has a lot of cool, artsy restaurants, awesome outdoor hiking and what not, and of course there is the Biltmore. Which is pretty overwhelming. The first time you walk into a store like Babies R Us, you almost run to the gun you are so excited. By the time you leave, someone might have to put YOU in a stroller and wheel your exhausted butt out to the car.<br />
<br />
We are hoping that a little info on the different styles of strollers might ease your pain a little :) A lot of your which-stroller-do-I-need decision will be made by your lifestyle.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7qIlCSaBX6rYWhy-dqaO4_-zLg_aAyuUKcbZ_-yHEF2a2p7_LcAorXucE3kq8ss_5dDfMfVBAjJ0fKk8ZWJ6xnOVFlt8bVTc3R7r8GbRp7OJc6b01KPJ7OIRMMBQIEU6FHfg6zKYq_0wS/s1600/Combi-Flare-2009-Travel-Systems.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="256" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7qIlCSaBX6rYWhy-dqaO4_-zLg_aAyuUKcbZ_-yHEF2a2p7_LcAorXucE3kq8ss_5dDfMfVBAjJ0fKk8ZWJ6xnOVFlt8bVTc3R7r8GbRp7OJc6b01KPJ7OIRMMBQIEU6FHfg6zKYq_0wS/s320/Combi-Flare-2009-Travel-Systems.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjr6TqiSgD5nx3lWgDZTTynDRbqBNBPNCBEyiIQrK5cQhLO2j_peCavMBYE5392iGTpm8F3QFxnd3Kk1tD4rlw5jMgFEFwGAkJN_77UZ0RwnK8xmI4wrxGREP1TNsFSM_S41J-mydsEYPyD/s1600/travel-system.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjr6TqiSgD5nx3lWgDZTTynDRbqBNBPNCBEyiIQrK5cQhLO2j_peCavMBYE5392iGTpm8F3QFxnd3Kk1tD4rlw5jMgFEFwGAkJN_77UZ0RwnK8xmI4wrxGREP1TNsFSM_S41J-mydsEYPyD/s200/travel-system.jpg" width="200" /></a></div>1. <span style="font-size: large;"><b>Travel Systems</b></span>: these consist of a matching carseat and stroller. The selling point is that when baby is in the infant stage you can pop him out of the car, set him on top of the stroller and never have to take him out of his buckles. These are great when baby is really little and sleeps a lot and doesn't weigh a lot yet either. Those car seats get really heavy after a while! The travel system stroller is a little bulky. They don't scream sleek and modern, but they do serve their purpose. And newer models are getting less and less chunky. There is a decent amount of <span style="font-size: large;">storage space underneath</span> so this kind is good if you shop a lot or are taking baby somewhere and you need a place to stash your stuff.When baby is done with the car seat you can still use the stroller for years because it has a high weight capacity.<br />
<br />

2.<span style="font-size: large;"><b> Frames</b></span>: Instead of an actual stroller, a frame is a <span style="font-size: large;">lighter weigh</span><span style="font-size: large;">t</span> way to transport the carseat and you still get storage beneath. A Frame <span style="font-size: large;">costs about half </span>of a stroller (or even more savings depending on which model you get). So some parents will get a frame for when baby is little and then go straight to a real stroller once baby is about 5-6 months and can sit up. Some babies are content in the frame/carseat set up until 1 year! The plus here is saving money and not having a bulky stroller to drag all over the place. These fold up pretty tight so they <span style="font-size: large;">take up less trunk/storage space</span> than the travel system sized stroller. The Orbit brand allows baby to rotate. Sometimes you might want to be able to watch baby. Other times baby might like to be turned around to see what is going on. With a traditional frame baby can only be backwards. When baby gets to be about 4 months, he might be entertained checking out the scenery so the Orbit version is cool.<br />

3.<span style="font-size: large;"><b> Joggers</b></span>: A jogging stroller is great for moms who like to run or walk. Their design allows them to move faster and steer easier than a traditional stroller. These are good for city babies, too, because of their maneuverability.You cannot put the carseat on top every jogging stroller so you would either use a frame for the first 3-4 months or just plan to unbuckle baby from the carseat and transfer to the jogger depending on the model. Baby will be facing outward and probably enjoy the scenery. You may need a newborn cushion for a bit until baby has strong head and back control around 5-6 months. They look like this and cost around $20: <br />

4. <span style="font-size: large;"><b>Umbrellas</b></span>: An umbrella stroller is pretty basic. They fold up pretty small and are easy for quick trips or when you don't feel like pushing a heavy stroller around. They usually do not have a ton of storage space. Umbrella are the least bulky so if you are shopping and don't want to take up half the aisle, opt for this version. If you are flying, this is the kind to pack typically because it is lightweight and compact. They offer little support for a newborn, so add an insert like above or wait until baby can sit up well before busting out the umbrella stroller.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg9seC6MgUQfYywjL_NE99eWys6FoAvabK-mQi9AFyUhVZR1N3dFuQH-61vPKFVUtzBBt6ZEvylYKEEFZdqgDghU919Z_iM5Q3dNJMSjfR8TpoW7r_Ae_3xO5nPmLQU5igSS56yJPDXpife/s1600/multiples.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg9seC6MgUQfYywjL_NE99eWys6FoAvabK-mQi9AFyUhVZR1N3dFuQH-61vPKFVUtzBBt6ZEvylYKEEFZdqgDghU919Z_iM5Q3dNJMSjfR8TpoW7r_Ae_3xO5nPmLQU5igSS56yJPDXpife/s320/multiples.jpg" /></a></div><br />
5. <b><span style="font-size: large;">Double or more Strollers</span></b>: having multiples? then you might need a double (or triple...) stroller. The debate here is whether to get a side by side or a front to back model. Honestly, they both have pro and cons. The side-by-side allow the babies to interact when they are a little older and both can see the action. However they are wider and can make shopping and manuvering a little tough. The front to back takes up less aisle room, but can be a little tricker to turn because of the way the weight is distributed. So just go to a baby store and take as much time as you need test driving both options and see which one feels better. They each have their advantages (and disadvantages) but neither are really that big of a deal. <br />
<br />
<b>A few questions to ask yourself when stroller shopping:</b><br />
How easy is it to steer with one hand?<br />
How long can I use this stroller? (is there a weight limit)<br />
Does it have a canopy for rain, snow, heat ,etc?<br />
Does it have the storage I need? (you can also hang storage bags off the handles if not)<br />
How easily does it collapse? (try the City Mini... SOOOOO easy to collapse)<br />
Will it store easily in my car, house, etc?<br />
Oh yeah, and how much does it cost?<br />
<br />

But sometimes life just gets the best of us. One area that is tough to keep up with: baby albums. You have probably noticed from your OWN parents that the first child is documented like a science experiment. Every single thing has a picture. Here is Joe at 6 weeks 3 days. Here is Joe at 6 weeks 3 days and 33 minutes. My how fast he is changing!<br />
<br />
And then the second kid has about 10 pictures. Total. And most of them aren't even labeled. In fact, you are not entirely convinced these aren't pictures of first baby just labeled with your name. Or some random baby photo your mom found in a picture frame and slapped your name on the back so you wouldn't feel entirely unloved.<br />
<br />
These days it is easy to keep an adorable chronicle of every season of baby's life. Even the second and third child! All you need is a digital camera and some cool websites. Well, and a little money. But not much.<br />

Then whenever you feel like, create a photo book on the site. You can make one for baby's first year. And you can add captions for each picture, create collages, etc. They are mailed to you in a cute little booklet all labeled and ready to enjoy. They also make great gifts for Grandma :)<br />

So instead of having 40,000 pictures on your computer just sitting there waiting for you to print, sort, organize into an album and label, you just use the photo sharing site and it's all taken care of. How kind. Really. As your sweet little uterus contracts, you will feel cramping just like during your period. Or worse. When breast feeding you will notice this out loud in living color. For some women it is intense. For others it is just unpleasant. Remember that Tylenol we talked about? Take it. Don't try to be a hero. After a month this too shall pass. On a positive note, it means your stomach is looking flatter and flatter.<br />
<br />
7. <b><span style="font-size: large;">Constant Hunger</span></b>: You thought you were hungry while pregnant? Ha. Welcome to breast feeding. For those of you not nursing, skip this number. But for you Boobie Girls, you are burning through some calories. And you will be hungry with a capital H. So stock up on HEALTHY snacks. Apples, almonds, hummus and veggies. Whatever. Do not believe the LIE that you can eat whatever you want. You can...if you want to get fat. Or keep that baby weight around. If you want to LOSE it, feed your black hole of a stomach with the good stuff. And drink loads of water. It helps with your milk production and also keeps you feeling full.<br />
<br />
8. <span style="font-size: large;"><b>Time Warp</b></span>: Back in the day if you wanted to go to Target at 2:00 you just walked out the door at 1:58. Now that you have a baby that is a done deal. If you have a doctor's appointment at 2:00, start getting ready at 1:00.Get all of baby's stuff together and set it by the door. Give yourself an extra hour. What? Yep, an hour. You never know when baby is going to take a giant blow out dump in his diaper JUST as you were about to get in the car. Or he pukes all over your outfit and you have to run upstairs and change. The more you can do ahead of time and the more lead time you give yourself, the less stressed (and late) you will be when you have to go places.<br />
<br />
9. <span style="font-size: large;"><b>Spit Up</b></span>: This is your new scent. It is like a "welcome to the club" badge for new moms. Babies spit up. It's just the way it goes. So if you are going to a friend's house for lunch, don't put your cute top on until the last second before you leave the house. Or even put it on in her driveway! Stock up on washable tees because you are going to go through shirts like fireworks on the 4th of July. When you go out, pack an extra outfit for baby, but also pack one for you. Spit happens.<br />
<br />
10. <span style="font-size: large;"><b>Tired Crank</b></span>: You have heard that life with a newborn pretty much equals sleep deprivation. That is no lie. If you work it right your baby will sleep 12ish hours every night around 8-12 weeks. But getting to that point is no easy task. You are going to be tired. Bottom line. And when you are tired you are cranky. Don't be surprised if you snap at people for no real reason. OMG!!!! YOUR BREATHING IS DRIVING ME NUTS!!!! you might say to the person behind you in line at Kroger. Do not beat yourself up. Try to be as nice and understanding as you can with everyone. Even your mother or mother-in-law. And especially to your man. They also need to cut you some slack. You are not really mad at them, just a little on edge because, I don't know, you haven't slept for more than 4 hours in a row for 14 days now?????? If you notice that you are a little psycho, get out of the house. Even if you just take a short walk. Or grab coffee for 20 minutes with a friend. A small taste of "real life" and a new scene does wonders for your mental state. Have some ME time at least once a week. Make it happen.Project Momhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11307332757026263187noreply@blogger.com0
